White lace Harriet bra and matching Frankie panties (includes tutorial on how to make a scalloped edge side seam)

EN Summary: Last week I made this white lingerie set and I used a couple of techniques for handling lace that I wanted to share; one of which is how to make a lace scalloped edge seam, a technique that will surprise you all for its simplicity. Keep reading the full article.

Continuem a ler o artigo completo!
EN: The bra pattern is the Harriet from Cloth Habit (I've made this bra before, check it out here); this white version is made of this beautiful white lace gallon (with stretch) from Evie La Luve's Esty shop - sorry, I think it's sold out now. I cut the cups and the front band from lace and I backed it with white sheer cup lining. The back band is made of white Powernet.
---
EN: Here's a close-up of the side seams on this bra, joining the lined lace front with the Powernet back; on the right side you can see the lace scallop overlapping the Powernet  and on the wrong side, the raw edges are hidden and there's a zigzag top-stitching visible (the zigzag is also on the right side but it's nearly invisible on the lace).
---
EN: The front band was cut so the side seam is placed along the lace scallops, ow points of lace along the pattern edge. Then I lined the lace pieces and treated both layers (lace/sheer cup lining) as one from then on; on the front band side, the lining only goes as far as the low points of the lace. The side seam is stitched the opposite way as we're accustomed to: WRONG SIDES FACING instead of right sides facing: I used a regular straight stitch, 1/4" away from the edge of the Powernet and low points of lace, as seen on the first diagram below (excuse the poor quality, I was just worried with passing the knowledge on over making pretty diagrams):
---
EN: Then the allowances are pressed to the Powernet side, on the right side of the band; the lace overlaps the Powernet raw edge. The seam is then top-stitched flat with a zigzag, enclosing all raw edges and delivering a nice and sturdy scalloped lace edge seam on the bra.
---

The lace panties: the pattern used was Evie La Luve's new Frankie pattern, Style#2 with LaceDetail#2. I was excited to try my first mirrored back lace panties only to find out the lace wasn't wide enough... No problem at all! I mended the lace as Emerald Erin shows in her tutorial (click here), by overlapping the edge to a scrap of lace matching the lace pattern as shown, and then zigzagged along the lace scallop:
---

EN: On the wrong side I trimmed off the lace excess using my applique scissors:
---
EN: Then I placed the pattern on top and cut the lace:
---
EN: To cut the mirrored back piece, I must flip the pattern horizontally and align it with the opposite lace edge; the mending operation must be repeated on that edge. To cut a perfectly mirrored lace piece, my favorite technique is to use the first  piece on top of the lace galloon, right sides facing, so the lace pattern matches. Then I pin it in place (so it doesn't shift) and cut around it:
---
EN: Here you have a perfectly mirrored back along the center back seam, the lace scallops are on the leg openings:
---
EN: The next photo shows all the pieces ready to be assembled: the front is cut of white mesh and the lace detail (also mirrored) is applied with a zigzag stitch along the scalloped edges and basted along all other edges; on the left there's the crotch lining and on the right there's the crotch piece (lace backed with the white mesh). Above there's the fold-over elastic and the embellishment bow.
---
EN: Here's the finished panties! I LOVE them! They are relatively easy to make, so stylish and very comfortable to wear!
---
PT: Aqui têm as cuequinhas prontas! ADORO-AS!
EN: I deviated from the instructions when sewing the crotch piece/crotch lining: I used the burrito method and it worked like a char, encasing all raw edges inside the seams.

Hope you guys liked the article. Happy sewing to all!
---

Your set is just so delicate-looking and beautiful! I love how you used the lace. It rivals the best high end lingerie.
